Road Rash is a motorcycle racing game that pits you against gang members, police officers, and civilians.

When it comes to classic racing titles, very few games are as iconic as Road Rash. This game was originally released on the Sega Genesis, but Electronic Arts quickly made ports for a wide variety of gaming systems, including Game Gear, Game Boy, and Game Boy Color. This release allows you to play this title on your Windows PC, and you are going to take a trip down memory lane as soon as you boot up Road Rash.

The mechanics in Road Rash are incredibly simple, and you should be able to learn the basic controls after your first race. The primary goal of each race is to beat all of the other motorcyclists, but there are some twists and turns that could throw you off. Unlike many other racing games, Road Rash allows you to fight almost anyone you come across. When a motorcyclist, civilian, or law enforcement officer pulls alongside you, you can knock them back by punching or kicking them. As you inflict more dame on an NPC, their stamina bar will continue to drop. Once their stamina bar is empty, they are going to wipeout.

In addition to using your hands and feet to combat other riders, you can also pick up weapons along the way. After you hit an opponent or knock down a civilian, you might be rewarded with any number of weapons. Some of the most powerful weapons in the game include cattle prods, pipes, chains, and crowbars. Those weapons can do quite a bit of damage in a short period of time, but you need to be careful while you are battling. If you hit an obstacle or get knocked off your motorcycle, then you are going to fall behind the competition.

Another unique feature in this game is the inclusion of police officers that chase the racers down. When a racer wipes out or falls behind, the police will eventually try to catch them. While you might be able to fight the police off for a few moments, they could eventually knock you down and bring you in. Riders that are arrested by police officers are immediately taken out of the race.

As you continue to win races, you will be able to buy a variety of upgrades including new parts for your bicycle and better weapons. That RPG element adds quite a bit of depth to this game and improves its replayability. Even though the graphics are bland and the music is repetitive, Road Rash is still a nostalgic game that could provide you with a few hours of entertainment.
